Ronnie Dayan, the former driver and security aide of Senator Leila de Lima alleged as her bagman of proceeds from the Bilibid drug trade, reportedly surrendered to police Tuesday, November 22.

ABS-CBN News reported that Dayan’s kin asked Pangasinan’s police director to ensure his safety after signifying to his sibling, a barangay official, his intent to surrender.

Initial reports say Dayan was arrested 11:30 a.m. at Sitio Turod, Barangay San Felipe in the town of San Juan.

Dayan is set to be presented to the media at 4:00 p.m. at the Philippine National Police headquarters at Camp Crame.

Justice secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II confirmed Dayan is in police custody.

He encouraged Dayan to speak up if he were to clear his name, saying he will “tie up the loose ends and supply the missing links” regarding the cases before the DOJ.

Dayan went into hiding and had been missing from his home in Urbiztondo, Pangasinan since President Rodrigo Duterte himself named him as Sen. de Lima’s lover and linked him to the drug lords at the New Bilibid Prison.

Recently, De Lima confessed in a television interview that she once had an affair with Dayan, but denied he was collecting drug money for her campaign kitty in the May 2016 senatorial elections.

The senator declined to comment on Dayan’s capture, telling reporters to wait for her statement instead.

He had been subject of an arrest warrant for his failure to testify before an inquiry at the House of Representatives in October.

Even the Volunteers Against Crime and Corruption announced there is a P1-million bounty for any leads on Dayan.

Oriental Mindoro representative Reynaldo Umali, chairman of the House justice committee, told ABS-CBN News Channel Tuesday that they may reopen their probe on the Bilibid drug trade following Dayan’s capture.

Umali described Dayan as their “missing link” and said they are now taking steps to ensure Dayan can face the hearings.

But Albay Rep. Edcel Lagman told reporters Dayan might be under duress to testify against personalities charged by the administration. “That should make us worry and wary.”
